Harald Hansen

  • Position: Consultant
  • Representing:  Harald Hansen & Associates

Harald was born in Norway and came to Canada in 1948 where he lived and grew up in Surrey BC.  He graduated from North Surrey High School and went on to U.B.C. and graduated with a degree in Economics.  Out of university Harald was hired by IBM Canada where he worked for 4 years.  He then went to Ottawa and helped in the expansion of a fast food chain.  Harald left Ottawa in 1975 and came to Dawson Creek where he was hired by the City of Dawson Creek in the finance department.

At the City of Dawson Creek he moved to Administration and served as the Administrative Assistant and then City Clerk.  In 1981 he became the City Administrator and stayed until 1998.  He then moved to the Peace River Regional District as Manager in charge of solid waste then as the Deputy Administrator.  He then became the Administrator and remained in that position until retirement.

Harald has been involved since the early 1990's with trying to correct the inequity due to not being able to tax Industry in the Rural areas even though they heavily depended on all the services provided by Municipalities like Dawson Creek. This work resulted in a tremendous effort by Colin Griffith, Moray Stewart, Harald Hansen ( The 3 M Committee ) and the other administrators Jim Chute and Randy McClain and others culminating in Fair Share 1,2 and 3.
